The Foundation

  • (Def) – Foundation [ foun-dey-shuhn ] noun
  • the natural or prepared ground or base on which some structure rests.
  • The basis or groundwork of anything:
The foundation of a language, what is that? When it comes to the approach of learning English, the foundation is the place where you start! If you know nothing at all about English, the foundation is what you want to make your strongest focal point. The foundation is going to be your structure, which enables you to grow and expand in your developmental stages of learning English, taking you from beginner to confident speaker.
Take a good look at the words in bold words in the definitions above,
  • Natural
  • Prepared
  • Base
  • Structure
  • Basis
  • Anything
All of these words are the things you are gong to need to guide you to a successful learning path to English. As a beginner, they will teach you how to manage your study time and advance your skills from beginner, intermediate, to advanced. These are your core principals!
Remember if you’re going to learn a language, do it the right way, you can’t skip all over the place; you need to learn and study in a methodical manner.

The key to success is a good foundation!

– – – – – Starting Line – – – – –

The starting line for a beginner is the Alphabet, or some refer to it as the ABC’s. This is where all beginners should start building their foundation. The Alphabet is a set of letters or symbols in a fixed order, used to represent the basic sounds of a language; in particular, the set of letters from A to Z.

al·pha·bet/ˈalfəˌbet/ – ( Noun )

Take a look at the Alphabet pictured above, it consist of 26 letters, notice there are five letters highlighted red. The red letters are what we refer to as the vowels
  • ( DEF ) – Vowels [ vow·el/ˈvou(ə)l/ ] noun
  • A vowel is a syllabic speech sound pronounced without any stricture in the vocal tract. Vowels are one of the two principal classes of speech sounds, the other being the consonant. Vowels vary in quality, in loudness and also in quantity they are usually voiced, and are closely involved in prosodic variation such as tone, intonation and stress.
  • A speech sound which is produced by comparatively open configuration of the vocal tract, with vibration of the vocal cords but without audible friction, and which is a unit of the sound system of a language that forms the nucleus of a syllable.
  • A letter representing a vowel sound, such as a, e, i, o, u.
  • The word vowel comes from the Latin word vocalis, meaning “vocal” the word vowel is commonly used to refer both to vowel sounds and to the written symbols that represent them.

Pronunciation Period✔

The correct approach is pronunciation, it is the basis of any language! In order to communicate correctly, you must know what you’re going to be pronouncing; that’s where your foundation comes in, remember starting from the beginning of the Alphabet. The alphabet, along with the correct pronunciation, will surely lead to your fluency in English!
Approach learning English in a strategical and methodical manner. Once you have practiced and mastered the alphabet, it’s time to familiarize yourself with the letters in a sentence structure; this will test your pronunciation skills.

Don’t Rush!

Take your time when studying. Be sure you repeat yourself over and over, this is key to the success of your fluidity ! You will speak the language without hesitation and without having to translate the language into your language in your head before completely understanding it or speaking it.
The more you practice repeating words to yourself, the faster they will become synced into your brain. Don’t worry about talking to yourself or sounding crazy around other people. Try not to rush through your study period. Remember, your goal is to become a fluent English speaker!
Make sure you take the right approach strategically and methodically to be identifying and pronouncing each word and letter properly.

Approach It, Strategically & Methodically

If you have already been studying English and still find your self struggling, ask yourself… Am I approaching the situation correctly? Maybe you need to take your time and focus on your foundation and structure. Be sure you get the most out of your study time.
Don’t get upset if you feel you need to go back or restart from the beginning and re-learn something or use a different approach. Remember, all progress is good progress!
 I know you’re excited to start learning, so before you go, be sure you ask yourself these questions;
Do I find myself in situations where I want to speak English and cannot?
Am I in a situation where speaking English could help me do my job better or even get my next pay raise?
It’s time to take action, and time to take the correct approach. Until next time English learners!

The reason why reading is one of the best ways to learn a foreign language is simply due to the fact that, Reading helps you pick up what’s important. This is so because reading provides exposure to the natural language.
